Jay Daniel Santiago, Philippine Ports Authority general manager, during the agency’s 44th anniversary celebration this month, announced that plans for the construction of the mammoth project are on track.
A pre-construction coordination meeting was held last March 16.
The two-story passenger terminal building, with a 3,000 seating capacity, will be located in a 9,416-square meter lot at the Zamboanga seaport.
It will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities such as elevators, escalators, fire protection, and waste water treatment.
The project is much bigger than the current passenger terminal building which can only accommodate up to 800 passengers.

Zamboanga City is serving as a major sea transport hub with several trips to neighboring island provinces of Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi Tawi, and Sandakan in Malaysia.
It is also considered as a major trade hub where cargo and containers are shipped in and out locally and internationally.
The terminal project is expected to boost trade and tourism not only in Zamboanga City but the whole BaSulTa (Basilan, Sulu, Tawi Tawi) and Zamboanga Peninsula regions.
