Vice President Leni Robredo is saddened by the death of former President Benigno S. Aquino III.
Aquino, the country's 15th president who pursued an anti-corruption drive and sued China over its excessive claims in the West Philippine Sea, passed away Thursday, June 24. He was 61.
In a post on Twitter, the Vice President expressed grief over Aquino's death and paid tribute to a good friend and honest and hardworking leader of the country. Her social media post included her black and white photo listening intently to Aquino during a previous occasion.
"Nakakadurog ng puso ang balitang wala na si PNoy (The loss of PNoy is heartbreaking)," Robredo tweeted Thursday.
"Mabuti siyang kaibigan at tapat na Pangulo (He was a good friend and an honest President). He tried to do what was right, even when it was not popular. Tahimik at walang pagod siyang nagtrabaho para makatulong sa marami (He was quite and tireless in working to help many people)," she said.
Robredo, who was endorsed by Aquino to run for vice president in the 2016 elections, sent her condolences to the family of Aquino.
"He will be missed. Nakikiramay ako sa kanyang pamilya (I offer my condolences to his family)," she said.
