39 phishing scammers arrested in QC

Police arrested 39 individuals and rescued one minor who were allegedly involved in a phishing scam operating in Quezon City Monday night.

Members of the Quezon City Police District nabbed the suspects, including the alleged company manager Rose Castolo, Jesto Aludino, and Mitch John Esteban, at around 10 p.m. after a concerned citizen informed them of their alleged phishing scam scheme that targets foreign nationals.

The concerned citizen also told police that physical distancing protocols as well as the wearing of face masks and face shields were not observed inside their workplace.

The company was identified by the police as Perse Intelect Marketing Campaign Service located along Regalado Highway in Barangay Greater Lagro.

Police said the suspects failed to present any pertinent documents relative to their operation, leading to the confiscation of the computers they were using.

A 17-year-old female was also rescued during the operation.

Police did not provide any other information about the suspects' activities but said charges for violation of Trafficking in Person especially Women and Children, Cybercrime and Special Protection Against Child Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination law will be filed against them.

Charges for violation of Law on Reporting of Communicable Diseases and Ordinance for Operating Without Permits will also be filed against the suspects, police added.
