Vice President Leni Robredo scored the Department of Education (DepEd) for the errors in the learning modules it produced for distance learning this school year.
Robredo, a leader of the opposition, said the errors should have been prevented if only the DepEd has put in place a “proper system“ in the production of learning modules.
“Ito iyong problema ng sistema na kapag hindi masusi iyong pag-asikaso ng lahat. May mga makakalusot talagang ganito, may mga makakalusot na hindi dapat (This is the problem in a system if not all things are properly taken care of. There will really be errors like these that will slip past them. It should have not happened),” she said over dzXL Sunday, June 20.
The vice president explained the errors in the agency’s learning materials should have not happened if only much attention were given to details.
“Kung maayos iyong sistema, nakikita sana early on. Nakikita sana early on. Naa-arrest iyong mga ganitong mga hindi naman dapat nakasaad sa kanilang modules (If there is a proper system, this would have been found early on. What are not supposedly in the modules would have been arrested),” she added.
The DepEd drew flak again over errors in the modules for distance learning used by students amid the coronavirus pandemic.

There were a total of 155 errors discovered by the agency from October 2022 to June 2021. Over 100 of these errors were in locally-developed materials.
One of these errors was found in the learning module used by Grade 10 students in Mabalacat, Pampanga in February that contained “makakantot.”
Part of the learning module read: "Ang aswang ay isang diyos pero pinapaniwalaan na ito'y tao na kumakain ng kapwa tao. Pinapaniwalaan din na may pakpak ang mga ito at sila raw ay gising kung gabi para makahanap ng makakantot or maaswang (The aswang is a god but it's believed to be a human being that eats other human beings. Many believe they have wings and are awake at night to find someone to have sex with or devour).”
With this problem on learning modules, Robredo underscored the importance of teachers or tutors supervising students to immediately correct the errors.
“Kung may nagsu-supervise na tutors or teacher, nakikita agad ito, eh. Nagagawan ng paraan, nare-report kaagad (If there are tutors or teachers who supervise them, this can be immediately noticed. They can find a way and report it immediately),” she said.
