Comebacking trending K-pop group Brave Girls debuted on top of music charts in Korea with the new album “Summer Queen.”
“Summer Queen,” released on June 17, contains the carrier song “Chi Mat Ba Ram” and four other tracks. This is Brave Girls’ new album in more than four years since releasing “Rollin’” in March 2017.
According to Korea’s Hanteo Chart, “Summer Queen” grabbed the No. 1 spot on the daily physical album chart with sales of 28,719 on June 17, a whopping increase of 20,125 percent compared to “Rollin,’” which only had 142 copies sold in the first week of release in 2017.
On the Gaon Music Chart, “Summer Queen” also placed first on the daily retail album chart with 27,922 copies sold on June 17.
In addition, the music video for “Chi Mat Ba Ram” has garnered 5 million views in 17 hours on YouTube since its release on June 17.
Brave Girls experienced a resurrection of their career early this year. They were on the brink of disbandment last February as they felt their group was going nowhere.
But that all changed when YouTube channel Viditor uploaded on Feb. 24 a video of Brave Girls’ various performances of “Rollin’” before Korean soldiers. The video also contained comments from soldiers saying the song has been popular in the military for years.
Four years after it was released, “Rollin’” started ranking high on music charts under a phenomenon known in Korea as “climbing the charts,” according to Korea JoongAng Daily.
“Rollin’” climbed to No. 1 and achieved a “Perfect All-Kill” status when it topped all real-time, daily and weekly music charts.
Brave Girls were in tears when they won their first ever music TV show trophy on SBS “Inkigayo” on March 14 through “Rollin.’”
They topped the Melon music streaming platform’s monthly digital chart for three straight months in March, April and May based on streaming and downloads.
Brave Girls debuted in 2011 and had member changes through the years. Minyoung, Yujeong, Yuna, Eunji and Hayun started in 2016. In 2018, the four girls began promoting without Hayun.
