OCTA Research: Davao City logs highest single-day COVID-19 cases since pandemic began

OCTA RESEARCH MONITORING REPORT

Davao City has recorded 482 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases on Thursday, June 17, which is the city's highest single-day record since the start of the pandemic in 2020, said the OCTA Research.

"This is the highest number reported in the city since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, and the first time the city reported more than 300 cases in one day," OCTA said in its report on Friday, June 18.

The research group said that Davao City had a one-week growth rate of 26 percent and a reproduction number of 1.47 during the June 11-17 period.

While the city's hospital bed utilization rate (HBUR) was "moderate," below 70 percent, its intensive care unit utilization (ICUR) was "critical" at 91 percent.

OCTA said Davao City had a one-week positivity rate at 14 percent over an average of 3,000 PCR tests per day.

"In the Davao region, Tagum and Digos also had an increase in new cases," it added.

During the same period, OCTA also observed a significant number of new COVID-19 cases in Bacolod City with 161 cases and moderate HBUR at 70 percent and Iloilo City with critical HBUR and ICUR above 85 percent.

"San Pablo City, Cebu City, and Baguio City had significant increase in new COVID cases," it added.

Meanwhile, OCTA noted that the upward trend in Dumaguete has slowed down but its average daily attack rate remained "very high."

It said that Davao City, Bacolod, Iloilo City, Cagayan de Oro, Dumaguete, Butuan, Tacloban, Polomolok, and Tuguegarao are still considered "areas of concern."
