Aiko Melendez to run for congress in 2022

The actress is bent on returning to public service years after serving as Quezon City councilor.

She now wants to represent the 5th district of the city in congress.

Aiko, 45, made the announcement, recently, maintaining there is a clamor for it.

“Marami talagang nag-uudyok sa akin na tumakbo bilang kongresista. 9 years akong naging konsehal, na-experience ko na 'yon, gusto ko namang mag-level up sa public service. I’ve always been behind the scenes, I want to go back to that direction.”

Current boyfriend, Zambales vice governor Jay Khonghun, is all for it.

He believes Aiko has what it takes to do a good job.

Meanwhile, asked if she is actually ready to go against fellow actor Arjo Atayde, who is also reportedly running for congress in the coming elections, Aiko shared, “No. Sylvia (Sanchez, Atayde’s mother) told me sa District 1 siya for congress; ako District 5.”
