School in Imus gets zero Meralco bill after solar panel installation

IMUS, Cavite - Pasong Santol Elementary School in Barangay Anabu here has been saving a lot on electricity bills these past few months.

From March to June, the school's Meralco bill amounted to P0.00, thanks to solar panels installed on the campus under the city government's Green School Program.

Before the installation of solar panels in February, the school used to pay an average of P10,000 a month on Meralco bills, with teachers using desktop computers on-site to conduct their online classes.

Aside from Pasong Santol, Imus National High School is also reaping the benefits of solar power. As one of the biggest academic institutions in the city with 10,000 enrolees, it used to spend an average of P70,000 per month on electric bills. But with solar power, their electric bill has gone down to an average of P25,000.

Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Rosemarie Torres of Imus, Cavite told the Manila Bulletin that the installation of solar panels is a great help not only in lowering the schools' operational costs but also in protecting the environment.

Torres said the savings from lower electric bills can now be allocated for other educational projects.

All public schools in the city are now using solar power to help meet their energy needs.
