The United States is in need of over 100,000 medical technologists, according to a Filipino labor official in Washington DC.
Philippine Labor Attaché Angela Librado Trinidad, in a DZMM Teleradyo interview, said there is a huge demand for medical technologists and medical professionals in the US due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Philippine Association of Medical Technologists and other health care organizations have also requested to relax the deployment cap on Filipino health workers.
"May nagtatanong kung ano ba ang nangyayari na, at meron bang review on the latest cap of 5,000 annually (Someone is asking what is going on, and if there is a review on the latest cap of 5,000 annually), they are asking us and of course we are telling them that this is based on the IATF resolutions, and also on the governing resolution of POEA at this point na meron talagang considerations sa pagtingin ng mas marami ang need sa Filipinos (There are really considerations in looking at the need for more Filipinos),” Librado-Trinidad told DZMM.
The IATF implemented the deployment cap to ensure that the country would still have enough supply of nurses for the local healthcare system as the fight against the coronavirus pandemic continues.
