Sayyaf sub-leader, 3 followers killed in Sulu shootout


Authorities neutralized an Abu Sayyaf sub- leader and three of his followers during a shootout in Barangay Alat, Jolo, Sulu at dawn Sunday, June 13.

ASG sub leader Injam Yadah and followers Al-Al Sawadjaan, a certain Rauf/ Raup, and a still unidentified bandit were killed during law enforcement operations by government troops.

Combined military and police units were serving a warrant of arrest against Yadah when the latter and three of his cohorts opened fire.

Troops returned fire, killing all four.

Yadah’s wife, Jhing, was captured while three of the couple’s children were rescued.

Yadah was identified as a notorious killer who participated in the kidnapping and decapitation of some of his victims.

Among Yadah’s victims are Talipao Mayor Tambrin Tulawie’s wife and daughter, businessman Rex Tripplett in Sirawai and Jolo-based physician Daniel Moreno. He was also involved in the kidnapping of various foreign nationals including the recently rescued Indonesians.

Al-Al Sawadjaan is identified as a volunteer suicide bomber and an explosives expert. He was the youngest brother of ASG sub-leader Mundi Sawadjaan and the last of Mundi’s brothers to be killed during military operations.

Troops also recovered IED components, high powered firearms and mobile phones from Yadah’s residence.

Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan Jr., Western Mindanao Command chief, commended Joint Task Force Sulu Commander Ma. Gen. William Gonzales and his personnel for their accomplishment.
