Kaya-Iloilo made a significant addition more than a week before its AFC Champions League playoff with the signing of Philippine Azkals member Jarvey Gayoso.

The club made the announcement Sunday, June 13 as Gayoso joins the top Philippines Football League side after playing last season for the Azkals Development Team.

Gayoso is currently in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates where he has appeared in the Philippine Azkals’ World Cup/Asian Cup Qualifiers matches against China and Guam.

The son of former Ginebra cager Jayvee Gayoso and grandson of basketball and football legend Ed Ocampo is expected to join his new club upon completion of his national team duties.

Kaya is set to return to action on June 23 when it takes on Chinese Super League club Shanghai Port in Bangkok, Thailand for a spot in the Champions League group stage.

Even if it loses the playoff match, Kaya is assured of a spot in Group I of the AFC Cup which begins June 30.

The 24-year-old former Ateneo star, was one of the key figures in ADT’s third place finish in last season’s shortened PFL campaign.

Gayoso began the season at left back but was eventually moved to a midfield role by coach Scott Cooper, resulting in four goals in five matches in the PFL bubble held in Carmona, Cavite.

His performance attracted the interest of Thai first division club Muangthong United, which offered Gayoso a contract.
