Davao del Sur Gov. Cagas succumbs to COVID-19

DAVAO CITY -- Davao del Sur Gov. Douglas "Dodo" Cagas passed away Thursday morning (June 10) due to coronavirus disease (COVID-19) complications.The family of the governor confirmed his death in a statement shared by the Provincial Government of Davao del Sur."It is with our deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Governor Douglas "Dodo" Cagas this morning owing to COVID complications.He has joined his creator in heaven," his family said.The governor is survived by his wife, Representative Mercedes Chan Cagas and their son, former congressman and now Davao del Sur Vice Governor Marc Douglas Cagas IV."He was the father of the Province of Davao del Sur, a dedicated public servant and his life is a wonderful inspiration to all," the Cagas family said."Governor Dodo has left many footprints in Davao del Sur that will be remembered for generations, and even more indelible footprints in our hearts," they added.Gov.Cagas served as an assemblyman from 1985 to 1986 and as Congressman from 1998 to 2007. He then served as Davao del Sur governor from 2007 to 2013, 2016 to 2019, and 2019 up to present.
