Duterte promises jail time for 'worthless' killer cop

The alleged killer cop in Quezon City won't get away with murder.

President Duterte has vowed to make sure the policeman who shot dead his neighbor in Quezon City would land in prison for his offense.

The President made clear that he would defend a cop or soldier performing hit duty but won't tolerate uniformed personnel who kill another person when drunk.

"They have to pay. Ang aking rule is if you are a military man, you are a policeman, you do your duty in accordance with law tapos nasabit ka, I will defend you. Pero itong policeman na lasing ka, torpe ka tapos papatay ka pa ng tao, kung nandyan ako, papatayin kita, wala kang silbi (But this policeman who was drunk and a coward and kills a person, if I were there, I would have killed you. You're worthless)," Duterte said during a television interview with religious leader Apollo Quiboloy Tuesday, June 8.

"Makulong talaga 'yan, sigurado. I will see to it na makulong (He will certainly go to jail. I will see to it that he goes to jail)," he said.

Duterte told Quiboloy that he used to beat up cops especially the drunk law enforcers. He recalled that when he was Davao City mayor, he got angry and hit a policeman who crashed a new patrol car.

The President made the comment after Quiboloy mentioned the shooting incident involving a police sergeant in Quezon City. The cop has been arrested and faces criminal raps after being caught on video shooting an elderly woman over a personal grudge in Quezon City last week

The Palace earlier said the shooting incident involving the QC cop was isolated, insisting that the Philippine National Police remained largely a professional organization. There were however a few bad eggs in the police force, according to Presidential spokesman Harry Roque.
