Vice President Leni Robredo on Monday, June 7, praised Yuka Saso for “making history” after she won the 76th US Women’s Open golf championship at the Olympic Club in San Franciso, Californina.
Robredo lauded the newly 2021 US Women’s Open champion for showing heart and effort to win the prestigious tournament.
“Iba talaga ang husay at puso ng kabataang Pinoy. Maraming salamat (Filipino youth’s skill and heart are really remarkable. Thank you), Yuka, for making history as the new #USWomensOpen champion!,” she said in a Twitter post.

The vice president posted her message for Saso with a video of her speaking in Filipino during her post-match interview in the US.
The 19-year-old Saso shared she had overcome an early adversity where she double-bogeyed the second and third holes.

She defeated Japan’s Nasa Hataoka becoming the first Filipino player to win the tournament. She also matched South Korean Park In-bee as the youngest winners in the championship’s history.
“Excited kami na mag-cheer para sa’yo sa mas marami pang laban, panalo at pangarap (We are excited to cheer for you in many more fights, victory, and dream),” Robredo tweeted with Philippine flag and heart emoticons.
