6 arrested in Samar for posing as 'generals' to hurdle checkpoint

TACLOBAN CITY – Six men were accosted for pretending to be generals to be able to hurdle a checkpoint in San Jorge, Samar last Saturday, June 5.

The six suspects presented themselves as Major Gen. Jose Suarez, Gen. Galma Arcilla, Brig. Gen. Errole Enverga, Lt. Gen. Albert Verba, Major Gen. Francis Sagum, and Brig. Gen. Jovencio Valera.

Four companions were also arrested for posing as soldiers to evade the checkpoint and health protocols – Capt. Edwin Gumarang Jr., Master Sgt. Jomar Borja, Private Robin Siso, and James Patrick Reyes.

Police manning a checkpoint in Barangay Poblacion 1 flagged down two vehicles separately boarded by the suspects at around 6:30 p.m.

Upon verification, they presented a travel authority but accosting officers noticed inconsistent details in the document.

This prompted the police officers to verify the authenticity of the document and found out that it was falsified. It also turned out their uniformed personnel identification cards were fictitious.

Due to these violations, police arrested the suspects.

They also recovered three unlicensed caliber .45 and one 9mm with several magazines and ammunition.
