Rep. Along Malapitan to run as mayor in Caloocan — Mayor Oca

Caloocan City 1st District Rep. Along Malapitan will run for the mayoral position in the city in the upcoming elections.

This was confirmed by his father and current Caloocan Mayor Oca Malapitan, who will finish next year his nine-year term as the city's local chief executive.

"Yung anak ko (My son who is)... Si Congressman Along," Malapitan said in an interview with DZRH when asked who will run for the mayoral position in the May 2022 local and national elections.

Dale "Along" Malapitan is now on his second term as a lawmaker in the House of Representatives.

Meanwhile, many believe that 2nd District Rep. Egay Erice will vie against the younger Malapitan for the said post.

"Eh lalaban daw eh (It is said he will fight)," Malapitan added when asked if Erice will run.

Malapitan made the announcement as he also hit the filing of graft charges against him before the Office of the Ombudsman over the local government's students' tablet project.

He believed that politics is behind it as he is already graduating as a mayor.

In a statement Friday, city administrator Oliver Hernandez called on the city residents to focus on the campaign against COVID-19 and not to believe the "lies" being spread against Malapitan.
