CAMP OLA, Albay – A 45-year-old father stabbed his two daughters to death in Baras, Catanduanes Wednesday.

Police Major Malu Calubaquib identified the suspect as “Rol,” of Barangay Western Poblacion.

Initial investigation disclosed that the Baras Municipal Police Station (MPS) received a phone call at around 10:30 p.m. from a woman asking for assistance after her husband slit her wrist.

Police went to their house and found two girls aged eight and nine lying and bathing in their own blood.

“Agad na rumesponde ang mga operatiba ng Baras MPS subalit ang dinatnan nila sa lugar ay ang nakahandusay na katawan ng batang babae na naliligo sa kanyang sariling dugo (Police immediately responded to the incident but arrived to see two girls lying and bathing in their own blood),” Calubaquib said.

Calubaquib said that the suspect attacked responding policemen with a knife, prompting them to shoot the suspect in the right leg.

The victims and the suspect were taken to the Bato Maternity Hospital. However, the victims were declared dead-on-arrival at the medical facility.

“Agad na sinugod ang sugatang suspek at ang mga bata na kapwa may tama ng saksak edad walo at siyam sa Bato Maternity Hospital upang lapatan ng lunas subalit ideneklarang dead on arrival ang dalawang bata (The suspect and the victims aged eight and nine who sustained stab wounds were taken to the Bato Maternity Hospital but the two children were declared dead-on-arrival),” she said.

Calubaquib said police are conducting a thorough investigation of the incident and have yet to speak to the suspect who is still recovering at the hospital.

“Hindi pa po makausap ng maayos ang suspek na nasa ospital pa hanggang sa ngayon (Police have yet to properly speak to the suspect who is still at the hospital recovering).”
