The infamous fried towel

Earlier today, June 3, 2021, Homegrown fast food brand Jollibee released a statement regarding the fried towel incident that went viral on social media on June 1, 2021.

Netizen Alique Perez shared on Facebook her disappointment about the fast food restaurant’s Bonifacio Stop Over branch after receiving Chickenjoy that instead of being made of real chicken, what she got is a battered, deep-fried towel.

“I can’t even think of the other Chickenjoys na kasama while frying this. Having the same oil for how many hours after frying this fried towel,” she posted. “The essence of the towel contaminated the oil and the batter from the supplier. So how many Chickenjoys are affected? We won’t know.”

According to the statement released, Jollibee has investigated the incident on the said branch. To make sure that the said store and its personnel have strict compliance with the fast food brand’s food preparation procedure, the branch has been directed to close for three days starting today, June 3, 2021, “to ensure that this will not happen again.”

“We will also send out reminders to all stores to ensure the strict adherence to Jollibee’s food preparation systems,” the fast food brand posted. “We at Jollibee are committed to take the necessary steps to maintain the trust and loyalty that our customers have given to us through the years.”

Of course, this wouldn’t be a national issue if it didn’t trend on Twitter. Here are some funny responses about Jollibee’s fried towel mishap:

Others even said that this might be sabotage on the beloved fast food chain. Looks like there is tea to be served in the future.
