Duterte still against Sara running for president in 2022

President Duterte was still not in favor of his daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio to run for president in 2022, Malacañang said.

Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque made the statement after PDP-Laban adopted a resolution urging Duterte to run for vice president next year.

In his press briefing on Thursday, Roque said President Duterte still did not want his daughter to run for the presidency.

"Narinig ko po personally ang Presidente as of last Monday at ang sinabi po niya, hindi pa rin daw po tatakbo si Mayor Inday Sara (I personally heard the President, as of last Monday, and he said Mayor Sara will still not run)," he said.

"Ang rekomendasyon nga po daw niya ay 'wag siyang tumakbo (His recommendation to her is to not run for president). That's the latest I heard from the President's own mouth," he added.

Meanwhile, Roque said the people of Davao can tell if a Duterte-Duterte tandem will be good for the country.

"Let's just put it this way: nagkaroon na ng Duterte-Duterte (The Duterte-Duterte already happened) in Davao. Let us ask the people of Davao if it was good for the city," he said.

"That could also be a clue that will help us decide if a Duterte-Duterte tandem will be good for the country," he added.

President Duterte served as the vice mayor of Davao City when his daughter was the mayor from 2010 to 2013.

In January this year, Duterte said he did not want his daughter to become president because of the hardship he experienced first-hand, and that the presidency was not a job for women.

A month later, the President reiterated that Duterte-Carpio would still not run, saying she wanted to focus on raising a family first rather than leading the country.

However, the Davao City Mayor told her father that another Duterte will take the seat in Malacañang if it was God's will.
