The Muntinlupa City government is mobilizing its resources in preparation for Tropical Storm “Dante.”
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Metro Manila is under signal No. 1 together with provinces in Luzon.
On Wednesday, Mayor Jaime Fresnedi held an emergency meeting with the Muntinlupa City Department of Disaster Resilience and Management (DDRM), other departments, and barangay officials and discussed the recommended measures in preparation for the storm.
“It is important that we prepare,” said the mayor, adding that Muntinlupa may be affected by the storm based on the projection of authorities.
The DDRM recommended the cancellation of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccination in Muntinlupa tomorrow, June 3, because of “Dante” and the safekeeping of the vaccines.
Public Information Officer Tez Navarro said the city government is awaiting the decision of the National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC) regarding the cancellation of the city's vaccination.
In addition, the DDRM recommended that all barangay captains and city department heads should stay within their areas of responsibility until “Dante” exits the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
It also said billboards should be rolled up and trees in dangerous areas should be pruned. The pre-positioning of emergency response such as generator sets, chainsaws, vehicles, boats, and flashlights should be implemented.
The DDRM also suggested that preemptive evacuation of people living along dangerous coastal areas should be done while the city’s flexi trucks are also recommended to be on standby.
Evacuation centers in different barangays are being prepared along with relief goods and necessary facilities. In case of an evacuation, it said social distancing and the wearing of face masks should be mandatory as a precaution against the transmission of COVID-19.
