K-pop superstars and Grammy nominee BTS’ new digital single “Butter” debuted at No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100, becoming their fourth song to reign on top of the chart in just a span of nine months since “Dynamite” in September last year.

According to Billboard, “Butter,” which was released worldwide on May 21, garnered 32.2 million streams and 242,800 downloads in the US for the week ending May 27 based on MRC Data, and recorded 18.1 million radio airplay audience impressions as of May 30. The new feat of “Butter” lands on the Hot 100’s June 5-dated chart.

It was a tense week as fans were watching who would be the next No. 1 on Hot 100 between BTS and Olivia Rodrigo, whose “Good 4 U” debuted on top of Hot 100 on the May 29-dated chart.

BTS first debuted on Hot 100 through their hit song “Dynamite,” which bagged the No. 1 spot on the Sept. 5, 2020-dated chart followed by "Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)," with Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo on Oct. 17, 2020. “Life Goes On” grabbed the top spot on Hot 100 on Dec. 5, 2020 and then “Butter.”

“Butter” became the 1,125th No. 1 on Hot 100 in its 62-year history and 54th song to debut on top of the chart.

“The song marks the superstar South Korean septet's fourth Hot 100 No. 1, all in the last nine months, marking any act's quickest accumulation of four initial leaders since Justin Timberlake a decade-and-a-half ago. Among groups, BTS has landed its first four No. 1s the fastest since the Jackson 5 in 1970,” according to Billboard.

It added that BTS have become the first group to have three songs debuting at No. 1 on Hot 100 through “Dynamite,” “Life Goes On” and “Butter” and “no other group has more than one.”

Billboard added: "’Butter’ is the 10th song to score its first week at No. 1 on the Hot 100 in 2021. ‘Butter’ is also the seventh song to debut at No. 1 on the Hot 100 in 2021.”

BTS also became the fourth group to have four songs at No. 1 on Hot 100 the fastest after The Beatles with four months from Feb. 1 to May 30, 1964; The Supremes with seven months and one week from Aug. 22, 1964 to March 27, 1965; and The Jackson 5 with eight months and two weeks from Jan. 31 to Oct. 17, 1970.

In addition, Billboard reported, “Butter” debuted at No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart, becoming BTS’ seventh time to top it. "Butter" also debuted at No. 4 on Streaming Songs and and No. 39 on Radio Songs.
