4 fishermen missing in Capiz

ILOILO CITY – Four fishermen are missing off the coast of Pilar town, Capiz province after a wooden-hulled boat capsized due to the effects of Tropical Storm ‘Dante’.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD-6) of Western Visayas region reported this in a consolidated report released Wednesday, June 2.

The four fishermen allegedly still went out despite the hoisting of a Storm Signal No. 2 for Capiz provice state weather bureau PAGASA.

The OCD-6 report also indicated that several towns of Capiz province were flooded due to ‘Dante’. Floods were reported in the towns of President Roxas, Pilar, Sigma, and Dumarao.

OCD-6 Information Officer Cindy Ferrer also said that several families were evacuated, but there’s no exact number yet.

The Iloilo Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (Iloilo PDRRMC)

have received reports that parts of the towns of Balasan, Batad and Carles were flooded.

Iloilo PDRRMC Chief Jerry Bionat, the continuous rainfall from yesterday caused the flooding most of northern Iloilo province was placed under Storm Signal No. 2 by state weather bureau of PAGASA.

The municipal government of Balasan also released a report that almost 50 families were evacuated and currently staying at at evacuation area. In the nearby town of Batad, there are also more than 200 individuals who were evacuated.

While rains have stopped, Bionat warned that residents in low-lying areas should remain vigilant if the rain will recur later Wednesday.
