Ex-SC Justice Arturo D. Brion takes oath as PHILJA chancellor

Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo administered the oath of office on Tuesday, June 1, to retired Supreme Court (SC) Associate Justice Arturo D. Brion as chancellor of the Philippine Judicial Academy (PHILJA), the SC’s education arm.
The Chief Justice was at the SC’s Dignitaries’ Lounge during the online ceremony, while Chancellor Brion was with his chemist-lawyer wife, Antonietta C. Articona-Brion, in their residence in San Pablo City in Laguna.
A cum laude graduate of the Ateneo de Manila University Law School, Justice Brion also served as secretary of the Department of Labor and Employment, a post he held until his appointment as 161st SC associate justice in 2008.
He ranked first place in the 1974 Bar Examinations with a grade of 91.65 percent. He retired from the SC Dec. 29, 2016.
Justice Brion is the third Chancellor of PhILJA in its 25-year history. He took over the post from retired SC Associate Justice Adolfo S. Azcuna whose term of office ended last May 31.
