Sam, the 17-year-old daughter of Sunshine Cruz and Cesar Montano, is joining the local entertainment scene.
In an exclusive interview with Bulletin Entertainment, the young star shared the reason why she's finally trying showbiz.
According to her, ever since she was little, she's always been interested in her mom and dad's work.
"Like I always see them on TV or on billboards. And I've always been interested in their work so now that I'm following in their footsteps I'm super excited!"
It also excites her that she now has the chance to work with relatives - from her parents and eldest sister Angelina to aunties from her mother's side.
Though, she admitted feeling the "pressure" as both of her parents are "very talented artists," even her Titas Geneva, Donna, and Sheryl.
"Obviously I look up to them and actually it motivates me, even more, to make a name of my own and be known one day not just as yung anak ni Cesar Montano, anak ni Sunshine Cruz but as Sam Cruz. And I have to work hard for that as my mom always says."
She vowed not to waste the opportunity given her.
"I take it as a blessing. I'm so blessed actually to be given work, and school, and everything I have. I really just want to do it. It's not like my parents are pushing me to do this. It's actually something I really wanted to do ever since because I'm so inspired by my parents. I want to be like them one day and make a name of my own."
Sam also noted she knows that showbiz is not all glitz and glamour.
That's why she'll be mastering the art of deadma on handling her fair share of bashers.
"I try my best to ignore them but use them as a motivation to make myself even better," she said. "It's a big opportunity that I've already grown up in the family of show business and I'm so blessed for that."
Sam knows, she has to work as hard as her veteran relatives to get to where she wants to be.
More than anything, she's thankful that her family members are very supportive of her endeavor and have always been there to give her advice in terms of singing and acting.
Sam is also trying songwriting where she usually writes about crushes and love.
But she could only pen lyrics when she's inspired.
She wants her audience to relate to the songs that she makes.
If ever, in the future, she hopes to collaborate with her musical influences like Julie Anne San Jose, Sarah Geronimo, and Moira dela Torre.
"For them, they always tried different things like different genres. And they're not afraid," she said. "So they always want to make their audience feel things and understand the meaning behind their songs and they have that stage presence na hindi nakakasawa yung kanta nila."
Recently, the up-and-coming artist just dropped her debut single “Train Of Thought” under Universal Records.
