The government is set to temporarily divert all international flights bound for Mactan-Cebu International Airport to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) starting this Saturday.

Tapping the Manila airport as the alternative hub for Cebu-bound flights from May 29 to June 5, 2021 is part of the government efforts to curb the spread of the coronavirus in the country. The latest decision was reached by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF).
Malacañang has issued a memorandum directing concerned government agencies to implement the weeklong diversion of international flights from Cebu airport to NAIA.
"In pursuit of the national interest in preventing the further spread of COVID-19 in the country, this Office hereby directs all relevant agencies to implement the following," a memorandum signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea read.
"All international flights bound for the Mactan-Cebu International Airport shall be diverted to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport effective 0001H of 29 May 2021 until 2359H of 05 June 2021," it added.
The Department of Transportation, through its attached agencies, and the Manila International Airport Authority have also been directed to "ensure the smooth diversion of inbound flights."
In the same memo, the Palace directed government agencies to enforce the testing and quarantine protocols for international travelers arriving in the country
The implementation of these protocols will implemented in all ports of entry "regardless of any specific protocols that may be issued by the local government units to the contrary."
The Palace also tasked the heads of departments to ensure their offices will abide by the latest directive. The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has also been directed to enforce compliance with respect to local government units.

Under the present IATF rules, all incoming international travelers regardless of vaccination status must undergo a 14-day quarantine upon arrival. The first 10 days shall be observed in a quarantine facility, with the remainder to be completed under home quarantine in their respective local government units of destination.
The arriving passengers must also take a reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test on the seventh day of quarantine. "Notwithstanding a negative test result, the arriving traveler shall complete the facility-based quarantine period of ten (10) days," the IATF's omnibus guidelines on community quarantine in the country read.
