Davao City logs 154 new cases of COVID-19, number of patients in isolation facilities rising


DAVAO CITY - The Department of Health Davao Center for Health Development recorded 317 new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the whole region on Wednesday, May 26.

Based on the DOH Regional Situation Update on COVID-19, 154 new cases were from Davao City, 67 from Davao del Norte, 39 from Davao del Sur, 32 from Davao de Oro, 13 from Davao Occidental and 12 from Davao Oriental.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the region is now at 26,730, including the 2,266 active cases.

The DOH data also showed that three deaths were reported on Wednesday, including two fatalities from Davao City and one from Davao del Norte. Davao City has the most number of deaths due to COVID-19 in the region with 741, followed by Davao del Norte with 160.

Davao City currently has 1,191 active cases and a total of 16,256 cases recorded.

Meanwhile, 120 recoveries were reported in Davao region, including 73 from Davao City, 32 from Davao del Norte, 10 from Davao de Oro, and five from Davao del Sur.

On Wednesday, Davao City Health Office (CHO) acting head Dr. Ashely Lopez said the isolation facilities here is almost 60 percent occupied.

“Currently, approaching ta sa 60 percent. Sa una, naa ra ta sa 15 to 20 percent (Currently, we are approaching 60 percent. Before, we are only at 15 to 20 percent),” Lopez said in his program over Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR 87.5).

Lopez said 16 to 17 isolation facilities here were considered "moderate risk." The rising number of cases has prompted the city government to reopen isolation and quarantine facilities for COVID-19 confirmed patients.

“Gi-open na nato tanan. RMC was reopened. Sta. Ana National High School, out of 200 capacity, 50 na lang ang vacant. Na-fill in na nato even the other isolation facilities that we have (We have opened all . RMC was reopened. Sta. Ana National High School, out of the 200 capacity, there are now only 50 beds available),” Lopez said.

Lopez said the city government has opened up the Doña Carmen Central Elementary School in Toril as an isolation facility to accommodate patients in Toril District and nearby areas. Lopez added that the facility has a capacity of almost 300 beds.
