Aboitiz Construction on Wednesday, (May 26) announced it has finished the design and construction of Berth no. 4 for Davao International Container Terminal (DICT) in Panabo City, Davao del Norte.
The DICT is one of the most modern ports in the country and the project is an extension of Aboitiz' previous construction of Berths 1-3.
The length of the DICT Berths totals 600 meters. They can moor 3 units of Post Panamax vessels.
Berth no. 4 alone is a 33-meter wide and 177-meters long structure, with a connecting bridge access and a mooring Dolphin.
In all, Aboitiz installed 1,965 pieces of precast pile cap, beams, girder and t-beams using a couple of barges and 4 cranes.
"With the design and construction of the 4 Berths, DICT is now the biggest modern container terminal in Mindanao," says Anton Mari G. Perdices, Director, President, and Chairman of Aboitiz Construction.
Previously known as San Vicente Terminal, thr DICT handled dock break bulk vessels that load agricultural products. Now, it has transformed itself into a modern container terminal handling larger vessels, loading construction equipment and rubber raw products.
The construction of the four berths increased the turnaround time for the loading of vessels. This means more vessels can now dock at the terminal to bring more products in and out of the region.
The berth construction also generated employment. Aboitiz hired 121 workers for the project, of which 72 percent were locals.
