2 motorcycle-riding men killed in shootout with HPG cops

Operatives of the police's Highway Patrol Group (HPG) killed two motorcycle-riding men in an encounter in Caloocan City late Wednesday night, May 26.

HPG director Police Brig. Gen. Alexander Tagum said his men were manning checkpoints along Congressional Road Extension in North Caloocan at around 11:30 p.m. when the driver of a motorcycle suddenly sped it off when they were about to flag it down.

This resulted in a brief chase which ended when the motorcycle crashed along Mount Apo Drive in Barangay 171 in Caloocan City. But instead of surrendering, the two motorcycle-riding suspects men allegedly opened fire at the arriving policemen.

This triggered a shootout which led to the death of the two men identified as Yukiro del Rosario and Clarence John Angelo Torno, both residents of Novaliches, Quezon City.

The cadavers of the two men were taken to the JARA Funeral Service in Bagong Silang, Caloocan City.
