PCG deploys floating assets to retrieve debris of ill-fated aircraft in La Union


The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has deployed floating assets to retrieve the debris of the aircraft that crashed in the vicinity waters off Caba, La Union on Wednesday, May 26.

In a statement, the PCG confirmed that the body of the 25-year-old student who piloted the Tecnam P-2010 aircraft (RP-C8230) was recovered in the incident area.

The victim was immediately brought to the Caba Municipal Health Office where he was declared dead by the attending physician.

According to the PCG, the body of the student pilot is now at the Mapanao Funeral Service in Aringay, La Union.

PCG Station La Union Commander Alois Morales deployed Coast Guard personnel to assist in retrieving the debris of the aircraft, which sunk at approximately 300 meters away from the shoreline.

Morales said members of Coast Guard Special Operation group also dive near the incident area to make sure that no passenger was trap in the aircraft.

As of 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the PCG continues to assist in conducting area security at the crash site while the investigation is ongoing.
