Hoping to attract more applicants for voter registration, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) wants to have mall registration for the May 2022 polls.
"We want to have mall registration again as a form of satellite registration, which happens on weekends, as they can really attract people," Comelec Spokesman James Jimenez said in a forum Sunday, May 23.
"It attracts people because its more convenient. While they are there, they can see the registration activities and will be enticed to apply," he added.
"As of now, our satellite registration activities are held in markets, offices, recreation halls of villages," said Jimenez.
The poll official revealed that they are already close to signing their partnerships with different mall developers so they can already start with mall registration activities.
In the past, satellite registration activities were also held in different shopping malls and commercial centers.
As of May 20, more than three million applications for voter registration have already been received by the Comelec for ne t year's polls.
Voter registration period will run until Sept. 30, 2021.
