2 minors allegedly rob, kill retired US Navy man in Tacloban City
TACLOBAN CITY - Two minors were nabbed a day after allegedly robbing and killing a retired US navy in his rented establishment here Tuesday, May 25.
PMaj. Winrich Lim, Tacloban City Police Station 2 chief, identified the suspects, a 16-year-old and 17-year-old who allegedly entered and robbed the place rented by the victim identified as Thomas Mate, 62, a resident of Zamora Street. Barangay 7.
Initial investigation disclosed that the victim sensed an intruder and inspected his rented space where he saw the minor suspects hiding inside one of the stalls.

A scuffle ensued between the suspects and the victim that resulted in Mate being stabbed by a still-unknown weapon.
He was brought to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival at around 3:38 a.m. on May 24.
"I think there is a need to revisit the lowering of criminal liability," the official said, citing that most of their apprehensions are minors for the crimes of theft, robbery, alarm and scandal, possession of deadly weapons, and now robbery with homicide.
