Rosanna Roces was huge in the ‘90s.
She was everywhere.
Blessed with camera-ready looks as with curves to die for, Osang, as fans lovingly call her, commanded the box-office and for years.
That she has superb acting chops was mere icing on the cake.
But before you know it, everything came crashing down.
She gained enemies left and right and none too soon, her star dimmed.
Osang became a mere whisper, a question mark, not unlike the ghost of Balete.
Where is she?
What is she up to?
Is she still alive?
Many thought they’ve seen the last of her.
But she’s back.
And how.
Having signed with Viva Artist Agency, she is busy as ever.
Shooting new films left and right including “Paglaki Ko Gusto Kong Maging Pornstar,” “Kung Puwede Lang,” “Kaka,” “Revirginized,” among others, there is also talk of her appearing in a remake of “Pieta” and “Insiang.”
In a recent interview, Osang admits she didn’t expect getting a second wind.
As she puts it, “Sinong magaakala na magkakaroon pa ng interes sa akin?”
Recalling her fall from grace, she says, “Siguro kung may basement ‘yung rock bottom, ‘yun ang narating ko.”
Asked what exactly led to it, Osang shares, “Pinagka-isahan ako noon. Tinadtad ako ng kaso.”
Ultimately, she decided she has had enough.
She went into a self-imposed sabbatical.
“Twelve years akong hindi nanood ng TV, hindi nagbasa ng dyaryo o nakinig sa radyo. Kasi naririnig ko pa lang ang pangalan ko, tipong balisa na ako. Na-trauma ako.”
Osang now admits a huge part of it was her fault.
“Alam ko na lang rin na hindi mangyayari ‘yun kung hindi rin sa attitude ko.”
She went on, “Noon kasi, ang ugali ko, parang God’s gift ako to Philippine Cinema na lahat ng tao, feeling ko, may kailangan sa akin…At napaka-impatient ko. ‘Pag ang tagal nilang mag-set up, umuuwi ako.”
Osang insists she’s now a changed person.
She relates, “Kailangan kasi nakakahiya naman sa tiwalang ibinigay sa akin ng Viva so, priority ko na ngayon ang magpakabait, maging professional...‘Yung bunganga ko, medyo napipigilian ko na nang kaunti... At sa ngayon, tinitingnan ko na lahat as blessing, hindi lang basta trabaho.”
Her biggest lesson?
“Ang magpakumbaba. Kasi, sa showbiz, maliit lang ang mundo natin. ‘Pag medyo may nasagasaan ka at hindi ka nakapag-sorry, tatanim sa kanila ‘yon...Mainam na ‘yung walang kaaway, may peace of mind.”
