Step up vaccination rollout to achieve herd immunity -- Gov. Fernando
Governor Daniel R. Fernando has ordered the stepping up of the province’s vaccination plan to inoculate more than two million Bulakenyos to achieve herd immunity.
“Ito ngayon ang focus natin -- ang mabilis at maayos na sistema ng vaccination. Tulungan natin ang mga bayan at lungsod sa sistema ng pagbabakuna at mga barangay. Tamang oryentasyon at pagsasanay ang kailangan upang mapabilis at maiayos ang lahat ng bagay na iyan lalo na sa pagbabakuna,” (This is now our focus - the fast and orderly system of vaccination. Let us help the towns, cities, and barangays in their vaccination campaigns. Right orientation and training are needed to make the process orderly and faster)," the governor said during the Provincial Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 meeting..
He added that the vaccination system is under the administration of the cities and municipalities but the provincial government will help them manage, especially now that more vaccine supplies are coming.
“Magdisenyo tayo at magtakda ng mega vaccination sites gaya ng nakikita sa ibang bansa. Ikonsidera natin ang pagbabakuna sa bahay-bahay para sa mga maysakit at mga nakatatanda. Let us tap our community workers and volunteers. Let us seek the help of private doctors. Maglunsad tayo ng bayanihan sa bakuna,” (We have to design and build a mega vaccination site similar to other countries. Let us do house-to-house vaccination for those who are sick and the elderlies. Let us do bayanihan for the vaccination program)," Fernando suggested.
Bulacan is one of the priority provinces for vaccine allocation because of its proximity to the virus’ center of gravity.
According to a report by Dr. Hjordis Marushka Celis, PTF on COVID-19 Response cluster head, a total of 80,313 Bulakenyos have been vaccinated with their first dose while 19,154 have completed two doses of COVID-19 vaccines.
She added that 33,849 were injected with Sinovac and 46,464 with AstraZeneca for their first dose; while 17,505 received Sinovac and 1,649 were vaccinated with AstraZeneca for their second dose.
She also informed the group that Bulacan has accepted 55,619 doses of Sinovac and 76,810 doses of AstraZeneca for the first dose; and 55,619 doses of Sinovac and 18,430 doses of AstraZeneca for the second dose from the national government. Out of the total allocation of the province, 88.65 percent for the first dose and 79.70 percent for the second dose were distributed to vaccination sites.
