DOST to metalworking industries: You can count on us
The Metals Industry Research and Development Center of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-MIRDC) has urged members of the Metalworking Industries Association of the Philippines (MIAP) to take advantage of its facilities to boost capabilities in areas of conventional and precision machining, conventional and precision metal casting, and heat treatment and surface coating.

MIRDC's Deputy Executive Director for Technical Services Engr. Jonathan Q. Puerto made the call during the MIAP’s virtual 31st General Membership Meeting and Election on May 21.
He said the MIRDC is fully committed to support the metals and engineering industry with services designed to enhance its competitive advantage.
During the event, which zeroed in on the sustainable collaboration of public and private stakeholders for agro-industrial modernization in the new normal, Puerto apprised the MIAP members of the Center’s technologies, facilities, and programs.
He said among the facilities that can be tapped by the local manufacturing sector are machining, casting, heat treatment, and surface engineering.
“The DOST-MIRDC packages its facilities and services as a one-stop-shop that offers micro, small, and medium enterprises the technologies and business solutions they need,” he said.
The MIRDC official said they continued supporting the MIAP, even as he encouraged MIAP members "to take advantage of the Center’s facilities to further build competitive capabilities in the areas of conventional and precision machining, conventional and precision metal casting, and heat treatment and surface coating.”
These technologies are for the use of the industry, either through research and development (R&D) collaborations or through facility-sharing arrangements, Puerto said.
He also asked the MIAP members to also use the DOST-MIRDC’s Advanced Manufacturing Center (AMCen) and avail its Advanced Mechatronics, Robotics, and Industrial Automation Laboratory (AMERIAL) services "to enable MSMEs (micro, small and medium enterprises) to better face the challenges in the new normal.”
