Cebu City prepares for mass public vaccination in June

CEBU CITY – Authorities here are gearing up for the vaccination of the general public starting next month.

City Councilor Dave Tumulak and City Health Officer Dr. Jeffrey Ibones said that they already received instruction from the national government to prepare for the mass vaccination.

The city currently has four vaccination sites but according to Tumulak, additional vaccination centers are being eyed to accommodate more individuals who are willing to be inoculated.

“We’ve found three viable options as vaccination centers but these are still under discussions,” Tumulak said.

Residents were urged to register online to be included in the masterlist.

“We will be submitting the masterlist to the national government because this will serve as basis for our vaccine allocation. They will determine how many vaccines the LGU (local government unit) can receive through the masterlist,” said Ibones.

Ibones said close to 35,000 individuals have already been vaccinated. The city is targeting to inoculate at least 700,000 residents to achieve herd immunity so far, around only 130,000 individuals have registered.

“But the figures still grow each day, and at least we already made progress than having nothing at all. We’re hopeful with the mass vaccination come this June, we will be able to fast track our goals,” said Ibones.
