Allain Ganapin failed to secure a berth to the Tokyo Paralympics after settling for the bronze medal in the Asian Qualification Tournament in Amman, Jordan over the weekend, in the semifinals.
Ganapin, who was competing in the men’s K44 -75kg division, yielded to Mongolia’s Batbayar Shinebayar, 41-10.
Shinebayar scored 11 straight points to turn back Ganapin’s 2-0 lead, dictating the match from then on.
Ganapin opened up his Olympic bid with a 32-25 quarterfinal victory over hometown bet Ahmed Makableh but fell short in keeping his momentum.
Only one ticket is at stake per weight division.
Shinebayar eventually lost to Joo Jeonghun as the South Korean denied the Mongolian a Paralympic ticket with a 53-17 triumph.
A victory for Ganapin could have made him the second qualifier to the Paralympics after para swimmer Ernie Gawilan.
Gawilan, however, will have to compete in the World Para Swimming World Series in Berlin, Germany next month for reclassification.
