Archdiocese of Manila releases schedule of installation of Cardinal Advincula as 33rd Archbishop of Manila


Due to restrictions imposed amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, there will be a series of events to welcome Cardinal Jose Advincula as the 33rd Archbishop of Manila.

The Archdiocese of Manila said this will ensure that, while the different groups and sectors are given a chance to welcome the new Archbishop, health protocols are strictly observed.

Based on the schedule released by the Chancery of the Archdiocese of Manila, Sunday, May 23, the Solemn Installation of Advincula and Mass will be held on June 24, at the Manila Cathedral, Intramuros, Manila.

Cardinal Advincula will be formally welcomed to Intramuros at 8 a.m. by the Mayor of Manila and the Administrator of Intramuros at the Postigo Gate.

The Archdiocese of Manila said the historic gate was used exclusively by the Archbishops of Manila and Governors-General of the Philippines during the Spanish times.

At 8:30 a.m., there will be a Civic Ceremony at the Ayuntamiento, the old city hall of Manila that now houses the Bureau of the Treasury, with the five mayors of the cities within the Archdiocese of Manila, namely, Manila, Makati, Mandaluyong, Pasay, and San Juan.

The Mass, which will start at 9 a.m. will be attended by the bishops of the Philippines, the clergy of the Archdiocese of Manila, the clergy from the Archdiocese of Capiz, government officials, representatives of religious men and women, the Council of the Laity of the Archdiocese of Manila, the family and guests of Cardinal Advincula.

The rite will include the solemn liturgical reception of Cardinal Advincula, the reading of the Apostolic Letter from Pope Francis, the seating at the cathedra, and the renewal of the priestly promises of the clergy of Manila. Cardinal Advincula will deliver the homily, his first preaching as Archbishop of Manila.

On Friday, June 25, at 9 a.m., Cardinal Advincula will preside at a Mass at the Manila Cathedral with the laity of the Archdiocese of Manila. This will include representatives from the parishes, organizations, movements, and young people.

On Saturday, June 26, at 5 p.m. Cardinal Advincula will preside at a Solemn Vespers (Evening Prayer) with the consecrated men and women in the Archdiocese of Manila at the Manila Cathedral.

On Sunday, June 27, the Cardinal will visit Maricaban in Pasay City and preside at a Mass at the Mary, Comforter of the Afflicted Parish, at 9 a.m.

The archdiocese said so as not to exceed the allowed number of persons in the venues, all the participants and guests in all these events have been identified beforehand.

"We invite everyone to join the broadcast of these events, which will be aired on TV Maria (Cable Channels: Sky Cable channel 210 Cignal cable channel 188 Cablelink channel 18 and Sat lite channel 102)," it said.

The said activities will also be live streamed on the Facebook pages and Youtube channels of the Archdiocesan Office of Communications, TV Maria, Radio Veritas, Manila Cathedral, and all the parishes of the Archdiocese of Manila.

Pope Francis appointed Advincula as Manila archbishop on March 25. He succeeded Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, who now heads the Vatican’s Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.
