Fireman killed in Southern Leyte drug bust


TACLOBAN CITY -- A 40-year-old fireman was killed in a drug buy-bust operation in Barangay  Rizal, Sogod, Southern Leyte Wednesday.

Police identified the suspect as Jody Daclan Magallanes, a Bureau of Fire Protection personnel assigned to the Mahaplag Fire Station  in Leyte and a resident of Barangay Mahayahay, Sogod.

Reports disclosed that a poseur buyer was able to buy medium-sized heat-sealed plastic sachets containing  suspected shabu worth P70,000 from the suspect.

 The suspect sensed that he was transacting with a police officer and opened  fire against the arresting team using a caliber .45 pistol.

The cops fired back hitting the suspect in different parts of his body. 

The suspect was rushed to the Sogod District Hospital for medical treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival (DOA) at around 12:10 p.m. by the attending physician.
