DSWD provides more than P2.8-B aid to over 688K persons in crisis situations


Those individuals and families who are in crisis situations can always count on the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The DSWD expressed Wednesday, May 19, its unwavering commitment to continue supporting distressed persons through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS).

The social welfare agency reported that over 688,500 distressed individuals have so far received financial aid worth more than P2.8 billion under AICS.

"As of April 30, 2021, the Department has served 688,590 clients nationwide under AICS with over P2.8 billion total amount disbursed,” it said in a statement.

The program provides medical, educational, burial, transportation, food and non-food assistance in the form of outright cash to support the recovery of individuals and families suffering from unexpected life event or crisis such as illness or death of a family member, natural and human-induced emergencies, and other critical incidents.

“Most of the assistance sought after by clients, to date, were cash and food assistance, and psychosocial help,” the DSWD said.

Various Crisis Intervention Units (CIUs) at the DSWD Central Office, Field Offices, and Social Welfare Development (SWAD) satellite offices located in the provinces are facilitating the delivery of the aid.

The DSWD had disclosed that it distributed more than P191.5-million AICS aid to 19,168 clients from March 29 to April 18, 2021.

The bulk of the total aid disbursed under AICS was given to clients in the National Capital Region (NCR), receiving more than P146 million.
