PH Red Cross conducts 2.8 million COVID-16 tests nationwide


The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) has so far conducted 2.8 million coronavirus disease (COVID-19) tests nationwide.

PRC biomolecular laboratories chief Dr. Paulyn Ubial said as of Sunday, May 9, 2.5 million tests - both reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) swab and saliva tests, have been conducted in their COVID-19 testing laboratories.

“Naka 2.8 million tests na tayo today (We have conducted 2.8 million as of today),” she said in an interview over TeleRadyo.

The country’s premier humanitarian organization started conducting COVID-19 tests on April 14, 2020. In late January this year, it launched its saliva RT-PCR testing.

During a virtual press briefing on April 14, PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Senator Richard Gordon expressed PRC’s commitment to contribute to the country’s fight against COVID-19 by continued testing - along with other services.

The PRC reported that as of April 14, it has conducted a total of 2,535, 583 tests- both RT-PCR swab and saliva tests.

Ubial congratulated PRC Port Area Laboratory for recording the most number of COVID-19 tests.

"It is the biggest molecular lab anywhere in the country today,” she said, citing that it has already conducted over 1 million coronavirus tests.

The PRC Bio-Molecular Laboratory in Port Area, Manila was inaugurated on June 23, 2020.
