PH records 7,174 new coronavirus infections


The Department of Health (DOH) on Sunday, May 9, logged 7,174 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections.

The newly confirmed coronavirus patients pushed the country's total number of active cases to 61,294.

Majority of them or 93.8 percent were mild, 2.1 percent were showing no symptoms, 1.3 percent were critical, 1.7 percent were in severe condition, while 1.07 percent were in moderate condition.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic hit the Philippines last year, the total number of confirmed cases stood at 1,101,990.

The DOH said that deaths jumped to 18,472 after 204 more fatalities were recorded on Sunday. The death toll represents 1.68 percent of the overall tally.

The recovery tally also increased by 9,197 to 1,022,224, accounting for 92.8 percent of the country's cumulative tally of confirmed cases.

The DOH said that all 250 COVID-19 laboratories nationwide were able to submit their data to the agency’s COVID-19 Document Repository System.

“Tiyakin natin ang kaligtasan ng ating mga tahanan at sunding mabuti ang public health standards sa lahat ng oras (Let's ensure the safety of our homes (against the COVID-19) and strictly follow the public health standards at all times),” the DOH reminded the public.
