The DICT, through its Mindanao Cluster 2 (MC2), rolled out free Internet hotspots in various locations in the towns of Bacolod and Maigo, Lanao del Norte.

Free Internet access points were installed at Bacolod Central Elementary School, Bacolod Municipal Hall, Bacolod Municipal Plaza, Bacolod Municipal Police Station and Bacolod Rural Health Unit.

Moreover, the DICT deployed free Wi-Fi access points at Maigo Town Hall, Maigo Municipal Plaza, Maigo Rural Health Unit, and Mindanao State University – Maigo School of Arts and Trades.

“Your DICT continues to ramp up its deployment of Free Wi-Fi sites in various localities this year, thanks to the relentless efforts of our regional clusters and the continued support of local government units across the country,” DICT Secretary Gregorio B. Honasan II said in a statement.

The DICT MC2 is targeting to deploy more sites in the coming months as part of the intensified rollout of the program, particularly in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs) in Mindanao.

The Free Wi-Fi for All Program is one of the DICT’s flagship programs. It aims to provide free internet access in public places nationwide, pursuant to Republic Act 10929 or the Free Internet Access in Public Places Act.

As of April 28, the DICT said it has established a total of 8,851 free internet sites in 1,109 localities and 80 provinces nationwide.
