Bataan university official dies in highway crash


ABUCAY, Bataan (PNA) – A ranking official of the Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) died when the vehicle he was driving crashed into a dump truck that he was tailing at the portion of the Roman Superhighway here Thursday evening, May 6.

Maj. Leopoldo Estorque, Jr., town police chief, said in a report on Friday that the victim was identified as Jose Paulo Tuazon, 37, a BPSU director for Auxiliary & Entrepreneurial Services and resident of Barangay Doña Francisca in Balanga City, this province.

The victim's Toyota Revo was a total wreck while the truck only had a minor dent at its rear portion.

Estorque said the two vehicles were both traveling toward Balanga City when the accident happened near the crossing of Barangay Laon here around 7:30 p.m.

He said that based on a dashcam video recording that they recovered, the dump truck was about to turn left to Barangay Laon with its signal light on when the AUV suddenly hit its rear portion.
Estorque said policemen and personnel of the Metro Bataan Development Authority immediately responded to the accident but the university official was found dead on the spot.

Police placed under their custody the dump truck driver identified as Alvin Arro of Barangay Mabatang here who, Estorque said, now faces a case for reckless imprudence resulting in death and damage to property.
