Barangay captain shot dead in Negros Oriental, 4 suspects nabbed


BACOLOD CITY – Four persons linked behind the killing of a chairman in Barangay Bagacay, Dauin, Negros Oriental on Wednesday, were arrested in pursuit operation at the boundary of Vallehermoso town.

Police Capt. Louie Batuto, Dauin town police chief, said the suspects, whose names have yet to be released, were arrested in a police checkpoint, few hours after the death of Barangay Bagacay Captain Stephen Alam.

Batuto said that Alam was gunned down inside the barangay hall where he succumbed to gunshot wounds in the head.

Batuto said that three suspects entered the barangay hall, while the other was waiting in a car as their get-away vehicle.

Batuto said that one of suspects was wounded after he was hit by a bullet when he grappled his firearm with a witness.

Despite the development, Batuto said they could not yet establish the motive as the suspects, refused to speak about the incident.
