Marikina's 'grocery-style' pantry uses point system in distribution of goods

A grocery-like community pantry that opened in the city of Marikina on Tuesday is using a unique coupon system for the distribution of goods to the public.

The community pantry, located in Barangay Nangka, is spearheaded by I-Fern. The pantry uses a coupon system wherein each visitor is given a 500-point coupon that they can use in exchange for canned goods, rice, eggs, even slippers and face shields.

The organizers said that the coupon system was implemented to make sure that everyone will be given equal opportunity in choosing their goods, and also to strictly implement the minimum health and safety protocols.

They said that the community pantry will be open for a week.

I-Fern opened last week a similar grocery-like community pantry in Taytay, Rizal which also made use of the unique coupon system.

They assured that all products of the two community pantries are regularly disinfected and refilled for the beneficiaries to have more choices.
