Fil-Am siblings killed in crash by driver being chased by police

Two Filipino-American siblings died after a vehicle being chased by the police crashed into their car in northern California.

Philip Nievas, 21, and his sister, Precious Nievas, 25, were on their way home from work when they were broadsided by a vehicle allegedly driven by a man fleeing the police for a traffic violation at around 10 p.m. on April 26in West San Jose, according to a report from KTVU News.

Officers said they tried to pull over a Honda Accord but the driver refused to stop, ran a red light, and crashed into the siblings' Toyota Camry, the report added.

The San Jose Police Department said the impact pushed the Toyota Camry approximately 250 feet forward into the sound wall where it came to rest.

The siblings were pronounced dead at the scene. 

The driver and the 17-year-old passenger were brought to a local hospital with moderate, non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Both were subsequently arrested on suspicion of evading an officer and gross vehicular manslaughter, along with multiple firearm and narcotics offenses. 

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with the Nievas siblings' funeral expenses. 

The siblings were both described as “very kind and down to earth.” 

"Precious has a sweet smile that many people will not forget. Philip was a quiet person who loved playing video games. But when people get to know him, they see that he is a funny and sarcastic person with a very soft heart," the page read.

"They were both extremely young with many dreams."
