K-pop boy band EXO member Chanyeol has finished his five weeks of basic military training and received an award.

Chanyeol enlisted in the military on March 29 as part of his mandatory duty as a Korean citizen. He will serve as an active duty soldier for 18 months.

On May 3, Chanyeol and other recruits who entered on the same date took part in the completion ceremony of their military training under the 9th Infantry Division of the Korean Army.

Chanyeol was given an exemplary award at the ceremony with the certificate stating, “The above person has faithfully performed the duties assigned to him with dedication and service to his country, especially during the 21-6 recruit education and training, the spirit of sacrifice and service he has shown has set an example for others, hence, this certificate is awarded to him,” according to Twitter account NoLoeyNoLife.

Recently, photos of Chanyeol in the military have surfaced, showing him having fun posing for photos with other recruits.

Chanyeol, 28, became the fifth member of EXO to enlist in the military after Xiumin, D.O, Suho and Chen. Under the law, all Korean men are required to start their military service by age 28.

Before his enlistment, Chanyeol’s movie “The Box” was released in Korea on March 24 and premiered at No. 1 at the box office, dislodging the Oscar-nominated film “Minari.”

Chanyeol will be discharged on Sept. 28, 2022.
