Filipino artists join ASEAN human rights cartoon exhibition

At least six Filipino cartoonists will be participating in the ASEAN Human Rights Cartoon Exhibition on Monday, May 3.

With the theme "Human Rights in My Country," the exhibition brings together over 70 political cartoons drawn by 37 cartoonists from different Southeast Asian countries including Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, and Myanmar.

Among the participants are Filipino cartoonists Angelo Lopez, Josua Cabrera, Bern Fabro, Paul Eric Roca, Zach Kartunista, and Dibujo Gasgo.

Topics highlighted in the gallery will focus on the war on drugs in the Philippines, the coup in Myanmar and Papua in Indonesia, the royal defamation law in Thailand, and the state of emergency in Malaysia.

Other Southeast Asian cartoonists featured in the exhibit include Malaysia's Zunar, Indonesia's Guz Wid, and Thailand's Wawawawin and PSSYPL.

Dato' Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim will formally launch the event online at 2 p.m. on Monday.

Other speakers are Yenny Wahid, daughter of former Indonesian president Gus Dur, and Phil Robertson of Human Rights Watch Asia.

The exhibition will be held online on Craftora.com on May 3-31, 2021.
