Cupang fire victims to receive over P2-M assistance from Muntinlupa LGU


Families whose houses were damaged by a fire in Brgy. Cupang in Muntinlupa on April 27 will receive financial assistance amounting to more than P2 million from the city government.

The fire razed at least 50 houses in Aquino Damaso Compound, Purok 2, PNR Site in Brgy. Cupang, damaging properties worth P1.4 million.

The Muntinlupa City government initially provided meals, supplies, and shelter to the displaced families.

The city’s Social Service Department (SSD) conducted a mapping of the area after the fire to determine the number of families affected.

Based on SSD’s assessment, 326 families or 1,241 individuals were affected by the fire.

Of the total, 170 classified as house owners whose structures were totally damaged by the fire will get P10,000 each or P1.7 million, while 65 house sharers will receive P5,000 each for a total of P325,000.

In addition, 58 classified as house renters will be given P5,000 each or P290,000 and 33 others will also get financial assistance.

An ordinance for the granting of financial assistance will be enacted by the Muntinlupa City Council and signed by Mayor Jaime Fresnedi.

The Cupang fire was put out at 4:02 a.m. on April 28 through the efforts of 79 fire trucks from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), city government, and other volunteer groups.
