CEBU CITY – On May 8, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police Gen. Debold Sinas will turn 56, the mandatory retirement age for police personnel.

Unless there is an order for an extension from President Duterte, Sinas will end what has been a colorful six-month stint as PNP chief.
And for the controversial police officer, he believed that he was able to deliver what was expected of him.
“I did my best, I served the people and the PNP, and I believe I made a difference,” Sinas said at the sidelines of the inauguration of a newly constructed police station in Danao City, Cebu last Friday.
Duterte named Sinas as chief of the 200,000-strong PNP last Nov. 10.
Sinas said his stint as chief of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) was one of the most challenging part of his career.
“It is the first time for us to have this kind a pandemic of this magnitude and I was in NCR, the most challenging region in the country. We were successful in our campaign and we didn’t see any problem,” said Sinas who was heavily criticized for the “mañanita” (early morning birth anniversary serenade) held for his 55th birth anniversary at the NCRPO geadquarters in Taguig City.
Sinas was curt in his reply when asked what were his accomplishments as chief of the PNP. “I have so many achievements. It’s in the newspapers,” he said.
Sinas said he believes that his stint as chief of the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO 7) helped pave the way for his appointment as the 25th chief of the PNP.
And it was the very reason why Sinas decided to visit Cebu in the final days of being the PNP chief.
"It was here where PRRD (President Duterte) came to know me. This is where my concept, my style, my leadership, my Voltes V was introduced," he said.
Sinas’ Voltes V highlights the importance of working together to achieve the goals of the PNP.
He said he has yet to decide what he will do next after retiring from the PNP. “I’ll take a rest. I’ll wait for whatever guidance. I’ll settle everything first and we’ll see what will happen,” said Sinas.
